Eschatology is one of my favorite hobbies. Eschatology is the study of Biblical prophecy. I love this. What an exciting time we live in. I love to watch the news and see where we are in history. When the last trumpet sounds, I'm outta here. Until then, I will stay busy.
Bible prophecy is extrememly fascinating. We should study it and seek to come to an understanding of God's plan for the ages. Some people have neglected prophecy, claiming it is too "negative." Some have even argued, "If it's all going to happen anyway, and there's nothing we can do to stop it, why worry about it?"....Others have argued that we should go on with life as usual, and if the Lord comes, He comes. If He doesn't, He doesn't. And if He doesn't, well then, we didn't waste a whole lot of time "foolishly gazing into the heavens." But to gaze into the heavens is exactly what Jesus told us to do. If Jesus did not want us to watch for His coming, He would not have taken so much time to clearly describe the signs that would preceed His coming. Nor would He have promised a special blessing to those who make the effort to read and understand the prophecies of the Bible. Furthermore, when the disciples asked Jesus, "What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" He did not tell them it would be a waste of valuable time to be watching for these things. Instead, from both the detailed answer He gave and the tremendous amount of space given to these signs in the Scriptures, it would seem that Jesus thought it was important for believers to keep a close watch on these signs.
